Loch Ordie
Where: Moorland between River Tay and Strathardle
Distance: Between 7.5 miles (12.1 km) and 13.1 miles (21.1 km)
Grade: Moderate
Terrain: Mix of footpaths, estate roads, moorland and farm tracks, and public roads
Transport: Buses to Dowally and from Ballinluig
Whilst parts of the area around Loch Ordie can often seem to be quite remote and even wild, the proximity of the A9 main road, with its connecting buses between Pitlochry and Dunkeld/Perth, provides convenient access at locations such as Dowally. A steady climb up a well-defined footpath joins an estate road to the fishing lake of Loch Ordie, beyond which rough tracks lead to a quiet public road for the local bus hub at Ballinluig. If time and effort allow, the walk can be extended to distant Lochans Oisinneach Mor and Beag before a gradual descent over rough grazing and farm tracks, passing Tulliemet House where the author Beatrix Potter stayed, for the public road to Ballinluig.
